Thirty-three foot atmospheric temperature indicator inoperable contrary to Technical Specification 3.3.3.4.

Condieions Prior to Occurrence:

Mode 1 power operation (95%).

Description of Occurrence:

At 0705, during routine plant operation, it was observed that the thirty-three foot atmospheric temperature indicator was rapidly fluctuating plus/minus six degrees.

This anomaly ended af ter a short period of time. Follow-up investigation by maintenance personnel revealed no system abnormalities. Thirty-three foot temperature indicating system declared operable at 0955, 28 December 1978.

Designation of Apparent Cause:

The cause of this anomaly cannot b3 determined. The thirty-three foot tempe/ature probe was checked with test thermometer. Control Room indication and test thermometer readings were within one tenth of a degree and no fluctuations or system abnormalities were observed.

Analysis of Occurrence:

There was no hazard to the health and safety of the plant or general public as no gas releases were in progress during the period of inoperability.

Corrective Action:

No corrective action deemed necessary as the cause of this anomaly could rut be identified and the event has not recurred.

Failure Data:

Seven previous occurrences reported, but first occurrence of this type.
