We have reviewed IE Bulletin 79-18 and have performed a survey of the audibility of the BVPS Unit No. 1 GAI-Tronics Page Party System. This system is used to attract attention of,0perations perconnel and general plant employees for announcements regarding assembly of emergency squad (fire or personnel injury),
evacuation instructions, or equipment problems affecting generating capability.
The survey was performed at approximately 100% Full Power. All areas of Unit 1 were surveyed with the exception of the area inside the reactor containment crane wall. This area is an exclusion area during station operation and is, therefore, not occupied.
During the survey, numerous adjustments were necessary (gains adjusted, speakers re-aimed, etc.) to provide adequate audibility in all areas. Several areas were found not audible due to inoperable speakers. With the exception of one inoperable speaker in the reactor containment, chese speakers were repaired and the associated areas satisfactorily retested for proper audibility. Also, several areas near the Unit 1 security fence and the vending machine area in the Service Building were found not audible and require additional page party speakers installed.
The repair of the inoperable speaker inside the Reactor Containment Building, completion of the audibility survey'within the reactor containment crane wall, and the installation of additional speakers all are expected to be completed within the requested 120 days of the date of issuance of IE Bulletin 79-18.
