I have enclosed herewith as an ndditicnal exhibit in support of Intervenors, Colemans',- moticn for supplementatica of answers to interrogatories by licensee: the LER filed by Public Service concern'ng the grid strap problem. 'Ihis Reportable occurrence document states in relevant portion that:

"At approximately 1500 hours0.0174 days <br />0.417 hours <br />0.00248 weeks <br />5.7075e-4 months <br />, difficulty was encountered in recoving ass #cly C-30 from the reactor core. A visu.f inspectica after rmM showed that the bottom north-west corner grid st ao was missing." (Fi=nasis added) .

At approximately 1500 hours0.0174 days <br />0.417 hours <br />0.00248 weeks <br />5.7075e-4 months <br />, dif ficulty was encountered in removing assenbly C-30 frca the reactor core. A visual inspection after removal showed that the botten north-west corner grid strap was missing. The adjacent a s sembl' ts inspecned with no damage no ted.

Previous assemblies removed fc : inspection and shown no apparent damage. As the fuel shuffle continued, mo: e assemblies were found to have damaged grid straps. In view of the problems encountered during the fuel shuffle and the fuel assemblies found with da= aged grid straps, Salen canagement decided to remove all original core fuel assechlies and conduct extensive inspection of the assemblies, the reactor vessel and handlin~w ec.ui.ctent. Cuentv-eight assechlies have .

since been ident,ified as having cracked, dented or torn grid straps.
