Engineering Branch, Division of Operating Reactors Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U-S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Ref: BAW-1538, Rev. 1 " Assumptions, Methodology, and Acceptance Criteria Report for Asymmetric LOCA Loads Evaluation," transmitted in letter of July L6, 1979, J. H. Taylor, B&W, to S. B. Hosford, NRC.

Dear Mr. Hosford:

Florida Power Corporation has been pursuing a multiphase program to evaluate the ef fects of asymmetric LOCA loads as a participant in the B&W 177 FA Owners Group in response to the NRC letter dated January 25, 1978 from Victor Stello.

Phase 1 conclusions were presented to you earlier this year and at the same time an outline for Phase 2 was presented for your review. The termination date for Phase 2 at that time was identified as mid-March, 1980. The purpose of this letter is to advise you that the follow-up activities from the TMI-2 incident have resulted in a delay in the Phase 2 prograr completion. The new completion date is July,1980. We also wish to confirm that seismic loads will not be combined with LOCA loads during Phase 2. This, also, was previously discussed with you in the aforementioned meeting.

We also wish to indicate tha applicability of the above-referenced B&W report to the Crystal Rive' Unit 3 docket. This report, which was submitted on July 16, 1979, describes the analytical methods and techniques being used by B&W/EDS for Phase 2 of the program and includes the acceptance criteria for evaluating the results of the analysis.
