REAFFIRMATION OF COMMITMENT TO JOG PROGRAM HOPE CREEK AND SALEM GENERATING STATIONS FACILITY OPERATING LICENSES DPR-70, DPR-75, AND NPF-57 DOCKET NOS. 50-272, 50-311, AND 50-354 In a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRG), dated March 13, 1997, Public Service Electric and G.as Company (PS_E&G) committed to implementing a motor-operated valve (MOV) periodic verification program for both Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations that would be consistent with the program described in Topical Report MPR-1807, Revision 0, "Joint BWR and Westinghouse Owners' Group Program on Motor-Operated Valve Periodic Verification." Subsequently, MPR-1807/NEDC-32719, Revision 2 was submitted

  • to the NRG. On October 30, 1997, the NRG issued a safety evaluation (SE) for MPR-1807/NEDC-32719, Revision 2 that, within the conditions and limitations described in the SE, stated that the staff considers the Joint Owners Group (JOG) program on MOV periodic verification to be an acceptable industry-wide response to Generic Letter (GL) 96-05. The JOG had agreed that, after issuance of the SE, requests would be made for participating utilities to notify the NRG of their plans to implement the JOG program described in Revision 2 of the subject topical report. By this letter, PSE&G is notjfying the NRG of our plans to implement Revision 2 of MPR-1807/NEDC-32719 as our response to GL 96-05 for the Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations. Additionally, the specific items described in PSE&G's March 13, 1997 letter continue to be applicable.
