WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 2 DOCKET NO. 50-397, CPPR-93 POTENTIAL'EPORTABLE DEFICIENCY - 10CFR50.55 e In accordance with the guidelines established for the reporting of 10CFR50.55(e) conditions, your staff was informed by telephone on November 14, 1980 of a "Potentially Reportable" condition regarding overloads on supports for spray pond piping.

Attached is our interim report describing the defi ciency and our approach to the resolution.

A final report will be submitted when our evaluation is completed.

CPPR-93 Potenti al Pr obl em and Reference Noti ficati on During the piping review for IE Bulletin No. 79-07, new seismic loads were generated for the spray pond piping. In r'eviewing the effect on the system> loads in excess of the design allowables for expansion bolts were'identified in four of the pipe supports and axial restraint drugs were found missing at one support. These overloads were not a result of the revised seismic loads (IE Bulletin No. 79-07) but due to the original hardware design. P A proach to Res pl uti on The original design analysis is being -reviewed to determine how much the, design margin is reduced below the original requirements. An evaluation of the piping supports will then be made to determine if any components would be overloaded to the point of failure.

Status of Pro osed Resolution

'eview of one original design margins is underway and scheduled to be completed by December 12, 1980.

Del a of the Final Re ort

~ ne final report is being del'ayed until the effects of the design margin reduction on system components can be determined.

Proiected Com letion of Corrective Action and Submittal Date of Com leted Reoort Any corrective action that may be identified will be initiated and the final report submitted by March 1, 1981.
