Re: St. Lucie Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-335 and 50-389 Instrument Air Supply System Problems Affecting Safet -Related E ui ment Generic Letter 88-14 Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has received the subject Generic Letter (GL) dated August 8, 1988, and is taking action and performing verification requested by it. Due to outage schedules and pre-planned hardware modification, FPL will not respond to the GL by its February 19, 1989, due date. FPL's detailed schedule for response is attached.

This response schedule has been discussed with the NRC staff.

Complete Response June 30, 1989 Item 2. Verification that maintenance practices, emergency procedures, and training are adequate to ensure that safety-related equipment will function as intended on loss of instrument air.

....This design verification should include an analysis of current air operated component failure positions to verify that they are correct for assuring required safety functions.
