SUMMARY
OF APRIL 13, 1983 MEETING RPurple On April 13, 1983, members of the NRC staff met with representatives of Southern California Edison Company (SCE) and San Diego Gas and Electric Company. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss SCE's plans for (1) managing plant retrofit items, and (2) early return to power. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees. Enclosure 2 are the handouts provided by SCE.
SCE discuss!ed the projected retrofit costs for San Onofre Unit No. 1.
The licensee is seeking senior NRC management endorsement for their integrated implementation plan that is designed to spread-out retrofit items over several reload outages. The proposed plan would extend through the Cycle XII outage (April through June 1990). The implementa tion plan is based on operating the plant on an 18 month fuel cycle and then implementing retrofit items during a three-month outage.
The NRC staff indicated that it supports an integrated implementation approach and that the licensee should submit a formal proposal.
SCE representatives also discussed their plan for early return to power.
The general provisions of the plan are:
- 1. Structures and systems whose failure could cause an accident will be available following a 0.67g earthquake.
- 2. Structures and systems requfred to get to a safe cold shutdown will be available following a 0.67g earthquake.
