SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 22, 1983 MEETING On November 22, 1983, members of the NRC staff met with representatives of Southern California Edison Company (SCE) and their contractor, Westinghouse Electric Corporation. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss (1) the results of SCE's prioritization of capital backfit projects, and (2) the "Integrated Living Schedule" developed by SCE based on this prioritization. Enclosure 1 is a list of attendees.

SCE is developing a long-term integrated bachfit schedule that would include regulatory initiated and station betterment capital projects.

During the meeting, the licensee's representatives discussed the ranking process, the schedule development, and the proposed implementation of the integrated schedule. Enclosure 2 is a copy of the handouts used during the meeting.

The schedule proposed by SCE assumes (1) 18 month cycles followed by 3 month outages, (2) an expenditure of $30 million per year for capital projects, (3) a 90% -

10% split between regulatory initiated and station betterment projects, and (4) other factors including procurement lead time, manpower and engineering support availability etc.

The licensee intends to submit a final report on the proposed schedule and to propose a license condition similar to the Duane Arnold amendment. This proposed license condition will specify (1) the implementaiton schedule, and (2) define the procedures necessary to modify the schedule.
