Dear Mr. Drake:
In the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for fire protection supporting Anendment No. 44 to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-13 for San Onofre, Unit 1, issued on July 19, 1979, we identified in Section 3.2.1, "Alternate Safe Shutdown Capability" as an incomplete item of review. In your submittal dated January 15, 1979, you provided the additional information in the form of a conceptual plan for safe shutdown as a basis for resolving this open item. We agreed to the integration of the safe shutdown.requirements for fire protection with any other requirements which result from the review of other topics in the Systematic Evaluation Program. However, we require that you modify your January 15, 1979, proposal using the enclosed document as guidance in mneeting our fire protection criteria.
Please provide your schedule for submittal of your revised plan for safe shutdown within 30 days of receipt of this letter.
