SUMMARY

OF APRIL 24, 2007, ANNUAL ASSESSMENT MEETING WITH PPL SUSQUEHANNA On April 24, 2007, at 2:30 p.m., an Annual Assessment Meeting was conducted at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and PPL Susquehanna (PPL). The NRC requested the meeting with PPL management to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) for calendar year 2006.

The NRC presented and discussed its assessment of the safety performance of SSES Units 1 and 2 for the period between January 1 through December 31, 2006. The NRC presentations included a discussion of the Reactor Oversight Process, general background on both plants, 2006 performance assessment results, and an overview of calendar year 2007 planned inspections. As part of the annual assessment meeting, PPL presented an overview of their performance and initiatives in selected areas.

The public observed the meeting and were offered the opportunity to communicate with the NRC regarding PPLs performance at SSES and the role of the agency in ensuring safe plant operations. At the end of the meeting the NRC answered questions from the public, including a discussion of dry cask storage plans, long-term high level waste repository initiatives at Yucca Mountain, and a brief discussion of fuel vendor status regarding channel bowing effects.
