SUBJECT:

August 1997 Monthly Operating Report (HOR)

Revised Operating Data Reports (ODR) for the months of June and July 1997 are also enclosed. These ODRs were revised to correct a transcription error in which the hours in the reporting period were inadvertently substituted for the hours that the reactor was critical.

At this time. reactor power was reduced to 70% due to a calculational concern which resulted in conservatively declaring the inoperability of the Axial Power Distribution Trip Units on "A and "D" channels of the reactor protection system. Operability of A and ~D channels was restored on August 14. 1997 at 0413 hours and a power ascension to 100% began. The reactor reached 100% power on August 15. 1997 at 0615 hours. Reactor power remained at 100% until. August 26. Inverter (EE-8H) bypass switch. Repairs to the switch were completed 1997 at 1215 hours when a shutdown was commenced due to the failure of "A on August 26. 1997 at 2359 hours; the shutdown was stopped at 22% power and a power ascension to 100% began. The reactor reached 100% power on August 28. 1997 at 2100 hours and remained there through the end of August 1997. During the month of August 1997. no power operated relief valves (PORV) or primary system safety valve challenges. or failures occurred.
