Unit 2 Steam Generator Replacement Activities The inspector reviewed certain U-2 SG replacement and associated activities to verify that the activities were performed in accordance with the Steam Generator Repair Program (SGRP) and applicable procedure Within the areas inspected, no items of noncompliance were identifie The review included the following activities: Inspection tours of the Unit 2 Containment, including observations of work in the inverted S/G upper shell assemblies and the removal and inspection work on the S/G lower support cresent attachment Vascomax pin Appropriate radiation and work procedures were utilize *

-e-2-Although unrelated to the Unit 2 work, the inspector reviewed the circumstances related to the portable bathroom fire on the site on June 7, 1979. * The portable bathrooms (2) and some adjacent clean protective clothing were destroyed; the fire teams responded appropriately to the fir.
Unit 1 Operations and Maintenance Surry Unit 1 remains shutdown following the issuance of the NRC Order to Show Cause concerning the potential piping stress analyses deficiencie Recently, the licensee and architect-engineer notified the NRC that their reanalysis indicates that certain piping systems installed in Unit 1 are not adequate, and that modifications to the installed piping/support systems are necessar Unit 1 remains shutdown pending review of the reanalyses and modification On June 7, 1979, while touring Unit 1 containment basement with an operator, the inspector noted that a slight amount of water had collected in the D Recirc Spray heat exchanger leak detecto The half cup of water was analyzed and determined to be the result of condensation in the pipe syste However, service water was found in the normally dry tube side of the heat exchanger and the service water line The licensee drained the service water and performed leak-testing on the DRS heat exchanger; no leaks were foun The inspector is reviewing the test results of the inside RS pump motors following replacement of the lower bearing (See LER 280/79-9).
The inspector also reviewed Design Change (DC) package 79-S18, which adds a 480 v load center to each emergency power trai (See LER 280/79-8, Potential overload of 480 v emergency bus).
Material certification documents and DC installation and testing procedures were reviewe Although certain post-modification electrical testing and load study reviews are still in progress, portions of the testing were witnessed by the inspecto Within the areas inspected, no items of noncompliance were identifie.
IE Bulletins The licensee received IE Bulletin 79-13, 11Cracking in Feedwater System Piping
, and is completing the necessary piping examinations; crack indications have been found in the Unit_l and 2 feedwater lines and corrective actions are in progress.
