The inspector noted that the audits were comprehensive in scope and that methods were established to identify severity, track open items and escalate corrective actions where necessar Technical assistance is provided to QA by personnel from Hope Creek and Nuclear Services Departments for the Salem audit The inspector noted that a corrective action request resulting from the 1985 Chemistry Audit had been escalated to a management action request in the audit conducted in 198 This pertained to review of procedures in a two year cycle; follow up audits determined that some of these still had not received the revie The timeliness of dispositioning thi~ concern will indicate the effective-ness of this escalation proces No violations were noted in this are * Testing of Air Cleaning Systems The inspector reviewed the licensee 1 s air filtration system testing with regard to the requirements in Technical Specification The testing of air cleaning systems and charcoal absorbers is conducted by a con-tractor on behalf of the Chemistry Departmen The inspector reviewed the procedures germane to air cleaning system testing as well as associated records and found them satisfactor Following testing, the results are reviewed by a Level II qualified individual which is the minimum require-ment The inspector noted that review by higher level of management and quality assurance personnel were not made in a timely manne Specific-ally, the following was noted:

Liquid Radioactive Effluents Control Program The inspector performed a walkdown pertaining to the liquid radioactive waste syste There were no concerns identified in this are The inspector reviewed selected procedures and liquid waste permits and noted that the licensee recorded pertinent information on the release permit A verification of the projected dose information was also performed, using the models and equations in the offsite dose calculation manual (ODCM) for Salem and found satisfactor The licensee provided the inspector with the results of a liquid split sample for comparison with the Department of Energy 1 s Radiological Environmental Services Laboratory result The results are included in Table With the exception of Iron-55, the results were in agreemen No violations were found in this area.
