SUBJECT:

INDIVIDUAL PLANT EXAMINATION OF EXTERNAL EVENTS FOR VERMONT YANKEE (GENERIC LETTER 88-20, SUPPLEMENT 5)

This letter transmits the 60-day response requested in Reference b) regarding the seismic portion of the Individual Plant Examination of External Events (IPEEE) for Vermont Yankee. Vermont Yankee appreciates the NRC's reexamination of the revised Lawrence Livermore (LLNL) Data in NUREG-1488 contributed to in issuance of Supplement 5 to GL 88-20.

Vermont Yankee has reviewed the supplement including Staficonclusions as they relate to the reduction in seismic review scope as well as the retention of critical components identified in Attachment I to the generic letter supplement. We concur with the need to evaluate these components and the Staff bases for their retention.

Therefore, in accordance with the Staff request for information and response, Vermont Yankee plans to proceed with implementation of the seismic portion of the IPEEE in accordance with Reference d) commitments, including the additional evaluations as discussed in Attachment I to GL 88-20, Supplement 5. Our schedule for completion and submittal of reports remains as stated in Reference c).
