Haddam Neck Plant Bimonthly Progress Report No. I New Switchgear Building Construction On September 30, 1986,(1) Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) committed to provide the NRC Staff with updated bimonthly progress reports in accordance with the major milestone schedule for construction of the new switchgear building at the Haddam Neck Plant. The purpose of this letter is to provide the NRC Staff the first of these reports. Bimonthly Progress Report No.1 is included as Attachment I.

U Haddam Neck Plant Bimonthly Progress Report No.1 New Switchgear Building Construction

SUMMARY

In a letter dated June 30, 1986,(1) the Connecticut' Yankee ~ Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) provided the NRC Staff with the conceptual design information for the new switchgear building at the Haddam Neck Plant, including a description of the new facility. The detailed design of the new switchgear building is now proceeding with the contract awarded to Bechtel Eastern Power Corporation on . September 22, 1986. The major milestone schedule for the construction and implementation phases of this project was provided to the NRC Staff in a letter dated September 30, 1986.(2) The major milestone schedule committed to provide the NRC Staff with bimonthly progress reports comm' enc-

-ing on November 26,1986. The following is a breakdown of the major activities accomplished and ongoing for the first reporting period.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES Award Contract The contract for engineering construction of the New Switchgear Building was awarded to Bechtel Eastern Power Corporation on September 22, 1986, nearly one month ahead of schedule.
