REVISION TO THE MILLSTONE 1997 EMERGENCY PLAN EXERCISE DATE

Dear Mr. Carns:

In a letter dated April 18, 1997, Northeast Nuclear Energy Company requested confirmation of.a. schedule change to the date of the plume pathway portion of

.the 1997 emergency preparedness exercise at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station. By<a letter dated April 28, 1997, NRC Region I acknowledged this change in schedule.

This letter is to confirm to you our' acceptance of the change in schedule for the 1997 emergency preparedness exercise at Millstone. The plume pathway portion of the exercise, originally scheduled to be conducted on October 8, 1997, is now scheduled to be conducted on August 21, 1997. The-ingestion pathway portion of the exercise is still scheduled to be conducted on October 9 and 10,'1997.

The NRC has discussed this schedule change with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In those discussions, FEMA was agreeable to the c schedule change. Both the NRC and FEMA have determined that they will be able i to accommodate this schedule change with respect to responsibilities associated with the planned evaluation of Millstone's 1997 emergency preparedness exercise, th plume and ingestion psthway portions.
