2.4~Storae'hecoatingmaterialsshallbestoredoffthegroundwhennotinuseinanareaprovidedforthatpurpose.Thematerialsinstorageshallbeprotectedagainstfreezingandfromt'emperaturesabove100'F.2.5TemeratureandPreciitationThecoatingmaterialsshallbeappliedonlytodrysurfaces.Thetemperatureofthecoatingmaterialandsurfacestobecoatedshallbeabove40'Fduringthematerialapplicationandcuringperiods.Thecontractorshallfurnishandinstallanyprotectivecoversrequiredtoprotectthenewlyappliedcoatingfromrainfall,hardfreezeorcontaminantsduringitsinitialcuringperiod2.6ProtectionofAdscentSurfacesemati1sdri30EXPANDEDMETALOROTHERSTEELSUPPORTMATERIALSURFACEPREPARATIONThecontractorshallmaksofforotherwiseprotectionalladjacentareasand"inplaceequipmeat"fromreceivingaaymaterialoversprayduringthecoatingapplication.Anyspilledmaterialandoversprayshal1beremovedpromptlyusing~~terwetragsorspongesbefore.therahaed3.1Prepare'thesurfaceonbothsidesoftheexpandedmeta1orothersteelsupportmateriaLforapplicationoftheTHERMO-LAG351Primerbyremovinganydirt,scale,rustorothercontamiaants.Neverapplytheprimerdirectlyover'anybardor'lossypaintedsurfaceswithoutrougheningthesurfaceinaccordancewithstandardpaintingpractices.342P~esurethatthesurfacesonbothsidesofthecleanedexpandedmetalorothersteelsupportmaterialarecompatiblewiththeTHER-'%-LAG330-1SublimingCoatingbymakingcrosshatchadhesiontestsAD~ysapplyabarriercoatofTHERMO-LAG351Primeroversteelsurfaceswhichhavebeenpreviouslyprimedwithazincbasedprimer-Alldoubtfullpaintedsurfacesshouldberemovedusingmechanicalmetho'ds,ApplytheTHERM)-LAG351PrimertobothsidesoftheproperlypreparedexpandedmetalorothersteelsupportmaterialusingsprayequipmentorarollerTheminimumacceptabledryprimerthicknessshallbe0.002inches,whichisnormallyachievedbyapplyingataspreadrateofcirca200sq.ft.pergallon.

3.3Measureprimerthicknessusinganapproveddirectreadiaggauge,3.4Makecrosshatchadhesiontests,asperFederalStandard141a,ontheprimedsurfaceoneachsideoftheexpandedmetalorothersteelsuppor'tmaterialtoassureproperadhesioabetveentheprimeraad~thesteelsurfaceexists-priortoproceedingwiththeapplicationoftheTREZHO-LAG330-1Sub1imiagCoating.3.5Makeatleastonecrosshatchadhesionteatevery100aqaurefeetofprimedsteelsurfacearea.Anyprimedsurfaceareavhichfailsthecrosshatchadhesiontestshallberemovedusing.mechanicalcleaningmethodsaadshallbereprimedwithTHERMD-LAG351Primer~3.6SurfacesarereadytoreceivetheapplicationoftheTHERMO-LAG330-1SublimingCoatingaftersuccessfulcrosshatchadhesiontestshavebeenestablished.40'PPLICATIONOFTHERHD-LAG330-1SUBLIMINGCOATINGANDTHERMO-LAGSTRESSSKINTXPE330-69/4.1Coatbothprimedsidesoftheexpandedmetalorothersteelsupport.materialwithTHHRO-LAG330-1SublimingCoating.Useabsorbentmaterialsuchasplyvoodorparticleboardasabackingfortheexpandedmetalwhensprayiagthefirstsideoftheexpandedmetal.Thecoatingshallbeappliedinaccordancewithinstructionsgivenin,Section4.0,Paragraph4.1.1through4.1.6ofTSI'sTechnicalNote80181-RevisionII-datedDecember1981~shownhereinasAppeadixA,4.2ApplyTHE/QQ-LAGStressSkinType330-69tothevetsurfacesoneachsideafterthefinalpassandusearollertoflattenoutanywrinklesandtoembedtheStressSkinsecurely.ThenapplysufficieatTHHQQ-LAG330-1.SublimingCoatingtocovertheembeddedTHERHO-LAGStressSkinORRKNCOATINGPRIORTO?QUNTING4;3Cutfour.identicalsectionsofTH1UQX)-LAGStressSkinlargeenoughtocompriseaportionofthefirewall4.4CoattwosectionsoftheTHERM)-LAGStressSkiavithTHERM-LAG330-1SublimingCoating.Thecoatingshallbeappliedi'naccordancewithinstructionsgiveninSection4.0,Paragraph4.1.1through4.1.6ofTSI'sTechnicalNote80181-RevisionII-datedDecember1981,shcr~hereinasAppendixh.

12.0COATINGAPPLICATIONTECHNIVES12.1THERMO-LAG351PrimerAlication12.1.1PreparethesurfaceofthesteelentityforapplicationoftheTHERMO-LAG351TypePrimerbyremovinganydirt,scale,rustorothercontaminants.Neverapplytheprimerdirectlyoveranyhardorglossypaintedsurfacewithoutrougheningthesurfaceinaccordancewithstandardpaintingpractices.12.1.2MakesurethatthecleanedsteelsuraceiscompatiblewiththeTHERMO-LAG330-1SublimingMaterialbymakingcrosshatchadhesiontestsasfollows:.CrossHatchAdhesionTest.Theprimeriscutoveranareaapproximately4"by4"inasquarematrix,eachsquarebeingapproximately1/2"by1/2".Ahighqualitytapeis'applieddiagonally.tothesquare.Uponcompletionofthetapeapplication,itisrubbedin~firmlytoassuregoodadhesion.Withonecompleteperkingmotion,thetapeisremoved.Ifmorethan3percentofthePrimerisremovedfromthesurface,theapplicationisfaulty.Thistestshouldbeperformedinareaswhicharedeemedcriticalandinasmanyplacesasrequiredbythespecification.UponcompletionoftheCrossHatchAdhesionTest,thetestareasshouldbeagainwiththeTHERMO-LAG351-2Primerbyeitherbrushingorlightspray.r2-43
