Evaluating / approving the use of HEPA e
V vacuum cleaners.
Specifying HEPA vacuum cleaner periodic verification frequency.
Ensuring personnel placing a HEPA vacuum I
cleaner into service are properly briefed.
4.1.4 The Radiation Protection Suoerintendent is responsible for implementation of this procedure.
4.2 Ligitations/ Precautions t
4.2.1 HEPA vacuum cleaners will be controlled by the Radiation Protection Se? ion add will be issued from a designated Issue Point (contact RP Controls Group).
4.2.2 Issued HEPA vacuum cleaners shall be locked to prevent opening without RP coverage,'due to the potential for internal high contamination.
4.2.3 HEPA vacuum cleaners shall n21 be used to exhaust burning / welding fumes.
4.2.4 HEPA vacuum cleaners must be equipped with a catch tank installed in line with the suction to vacuum contaminated liquids.
i 4.2.5 Electric HEPA vacuum cleaners should be equipped with a float switch or a mechanical float assembly that shuts off flow to the

vacuum to de-energize the motor before it fills to a point whero the motor would be Wetted.
4.2.6 Unused HEPA vacuum cleaners shall be stored
- i in an area designated by RP.
4.2.7 HEPA vacuum cleaners that are used in posted asbestos areas shall n21 be used for any other purpose.
However, radiological prctection provisions of this procedure apply j
to their use.
R 4.2.8 HEPA vacuum cleaners shall nqt be removed from the Restricted Area, unless approved by RP Supervision.
