AP600 DESIGN CHANGE DESCRII' TION REPORT I' car Mr. Borchardt:

Enclosed with this letter is a report describing two changes to the AP600 design as described in the  !

AP600 Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR). The enclosed report describes each change, l identifies the purpose of the change and discusses the impact on the AP600 safety analyses and  !

probabilistic risk assessment and test programs.

The first change, to delete the pressurizer to core makeup tank (CMT) pressure balance line, was discussed with NRC staff during a meeting on April 7,1994. The second change, modification of reactor vessel head vent design, was discussed in concept during a meeting between NRC and Westinghouse senior management on December 22,1993.

The enclosed report is provided as interim documentation of the design changes. The identified impacts on the AP600 SSAR and PRA will be included in future revisions.

Enclosure 2 contains a non-proprietary copy of the design change description report.
