SUMMARY

In a letter dated June 30, 1986,(1) the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company -(CYAPCO) provided the NRC Staff with the conceptual design information for the new switchgear building at the Haddam Neck Plant, including a description of the new facility. The major milestone schedule for the construction and implementation phases of this project was provided to the NRC Staff in a letter dated September 30, 1986(2) and committed to provide the NRC Staff with bimonthly progress reports. The following is a breakdown of the major activities accomplished and ongoing for the sixth reporting period.

PROJECT

SUMMARY

An accelerated schedule was implemented for the new Switchgear Building in an effort to recover a portion of the time lost due to technical difficulties with the excavation and dewatering of the foundation. This accelerated schedule incorporates a work schedule of six 10-hour days through the completion of outage related activities, and five 10-hour days thereaf ter until building close-in, which is expected to be achieved by December 23,1987 under this plan.

Construction activities are proceeding in support of this schedule, with placement of the concrete mud-mat on August 21, 1987, and the foundation placement on September 10, 1987. Work is currently in progress on the installation of reinforcing steel for the walls to elevation 25' 6", which is expected to be completed early next month. Work was completed on the j replacement of the four load center transformers.

A reevaluation of engineering commitments was completed this month based on the accelerated construction schedule, and a revised Project Integrated Schedule was developed.

A pre-award meeting was held with the bidders on the halon system to review the scope of work and address technical issues. In support of the revised integrated schedule, the HVAC portion of this work will be issued separately, under PDCR No. 868, with the Fire Protection Systems issued under new PDCR No. 917. Work continued this month on the raceway layout for the HVAC and building auxiliaries. The design of the HVAC duct and duct support details was completed and issued i

for review.
