L - Washington, DC 20426 .,g g REGULATORY C0 %3S103 To the Cammimaioners, As^m resident of eastern Long Island, I am worried about the 1 danger posed to my family and community by:the Millstone Nuclear

~ Power Plant in: Connecticut. Our Senate Majority Leader, Mr.

~ Joseph Bruno, suggested:that we write to you regarding our concerns about Millstoney' He said that your commission was required to regulate the nuclear power tv.dustry and to determine the safety standards.each plant must meet in order to ensure the

. safe operation of the facilities. With this in' mind, we want you to know that the . operation of Millstone represents reckless endangerment of health and. safety of Long Islanders.

We live a_ mere'12 to 15 miles away, and yet.have no l evacuation. plan in case of accident. Years ago, our political

_be impossible. We are stuck at the end of an island, with 7' transportation routes overcrowded in ordinary circumstances. An

l. accident'like'that at Three Mile Island or Chernobyl would be a disaster of disarming proportiens!

The everyday operation of this plant not only threatens us with the ultimate disaster of meltdown; it is daily killing our fish, damaging our wildlife. Millstone has polluted our water with radioactive chemicals. Connecticut Superior Court. Judge Norris L. O'Neill ruled last week that Millstone's cooling system "causes injury to the marine environment in Long Island Sound."

Furthermore, there is no monitoring of air and water east of Brookhaven. And, there is a- disturbing lack of information about potassium icdide, in spite of the American Thyroid Association's suggestion and NRC report (after the Three Mile Island accident?

recommending' stockpiling and distribution of this prophylaxis.

Please help us protect our families and our communities.

Please-Shat Down Millstone. No amount of profit for an energy company is worth the risk to the many residents of eastern Long Island..

1 Sincerely, L
