MFP ltFR SPEED SETPOINT FCR 8.5-200 I. PURPOSE A. Modify RFR so that MF Pump speed and the control valve change on a reactor trip is done in a sacoth controlled fashion.

II. DESCRIPTION I A. After a Rx trip the MF Pumps are targeted to a post trip speed.

1. The control valves close rapidly to decrease FW flow rate.
2. Combination of the two is suspected of tripping the MFP's on high discharge pressure.

B.

RFR circuit has been modified to correct the control problem.

. 'l.__A signal lag has been added to the circuit of the MF pumps and control valves.

a.- The output of the signal lag module for the MF Pumps will change exponentially with a 18 second time constant from the total FW demand just prior to trip to the RFR setpoint.

b. The output of the signal lag module for the control valves will change exponentially with a 4.5 second time constant from total FW

' demand just prior to trip to the RFR.

SUMMARY

- - - - ~~ ~~

A. Modifies the Integrated Control System (ICS) Rapid Feedwater Reduction (RFR) circuit so that the Main Feed

--. - Water Pumps -change speed in a smooth controlled fashion from pretrip operating speed to the RFR speed (~ 4600 RPM)

B. Modifies the circuitry so that the main and startup FW control valves on both FW loops change position in a smooth, controlled fashion from their pretrip position to their post-trip, target RFR position (17% on SU) 8603040425 860226
