PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to establish the requirements,
- responsibilities and processes for simulation testing and maintenance of the BAC.
2.0 - SCOPE
- 2.1 Acelicability This procedure applies to those Nuclear' Security personnel 1
assigned the responsibility for the performance-of BAC simulations and maintenance of the BAC.

To ensure that the BAC is operating within acceptable l
tolerances and will provide accurate evidence of Breath Alcohol concentration during the performance of examinations.-

4.O DELINITIONS 4.1--BAC Datamaster The device used to collect breath samples for.the purpose of determining tha blood alcohol concentration through breath analysis.
4.2 Breath Alcohol _Qpat;.pnt _(BAC)
The percent of alcohol in a persons breath expressed as-grams by weight in 210 liters of deep breath analysis.

01 IS-DP-00101 5.0-RESPONSIBILITIES 5.1 -General Sucervisor - Nuclear Security Ocerations shall be responsible for:
5.1.1 Implementing and maintaining the requirements of this procedure.
5'.1.2 Ensuring that an appropiate number of individuals are trained to maintain the BAC and conduct l
Simulation tests.
5.2 Supervisor - Nuclear Security Operations shall be responsible for:
j 5.2.1 Ensuring that simulation test on the BAC as defined l in this procedure is performed.
5.2.2 Notifying the General Supervisor - Nuclear Security Operations when the BAC is not available for breath l alchohol examinations.
5.2.3 Contacting a qualified service technician when the BAC is not functioning correctly or is not operatingi within acceptable tolerances.
5.2.4 Contacting a qualified service technician at least once every twelve (12) _ months for periodic maintenance of the BAC.
l 5.2.5 Training and gaalifying personnel in the use of i
the BAC.
l 5.3 Nuclear Security _ Personnel assigned to operate the BAC shall be responsible for notifying the Supervisor -
Nuclear Security Operations when the BAC is not functioning properly.

- 6. 0-PROCEDUPE-G.1 Simulation Recuirerents 6.1.1 A simulation test shall be performed on the BAC at a minimum onct every seven (7) days, or if there !
is reason to believe that the instrument is not operating within acceptable tolerances.
6.1.2-Simulator Solution shall be obtained for use in sealed, pre-measured containers.

When a new box of simulator solution is opened the j
BAC Senior Operator shall ensure that-the Laboratory l
Solution Certificate contained in the box is sent to the Supervisor-Nuclear Security Operations for i
retention.

6.1.4 When the seal is broken on the simulator solutien, the BAC Senior Operator shall complete the following information on the Simulator Solution Log, Attachment 1.

6.3.1-The BAC Senior Operator /or other qualified person performing'the simulation test shall administer the test in accordance with the instructions listed on the Simulation Test checklist, Attachment 2.

SIMULATION TEST CHECKLIST BAC STARTLT I

Turn Power ON/OFF switch to "ON" 2.
The Instrument will display the date and time (hour and minutes),
j and "PLEASE WAIT" on the Display while in the warm-up mode j
3.
Allow unit to warm up for 10 to 20 minutes.
(A longer j
warm up is required if the BAC has been left in a cold l
environment) j 4.
When the BAC is properly warmed up and ready to run, the green l
" READY" light on the RUN button will come on.
5.
Depress Test push button to run diagnostics and follow C-1 instructions.
EECTION 2 - SIMULATOP STARTUP l.
Empty the contents of the simulator solution currently in use into the simulator test solution container.
2.
Properly attach simulation solution container to it's simulator top.
3.
Turn simulator heater on.
4.
Observe light on.
Solution will heac to 34 deg. C then observe the flashing heater light.
SECTION 3 - SIMULATOR TEST 1.
Attach the Simulator to the BAC.
2.
Press the " SUPERVISOR" button, and follow instructions C-1l 3.
Observe *.he BAC readying itself for the simulator test: observe the following messages in the display " PURGING", " AMBIENT ZEROING", " BLANK TEST", " INTERNAL STANDARD CHECK".
This process requires about 60 seconds to complete.

" Vapor In" port on the BAC and simulator INPUT is j
connected to the " Pressure Out" port on the BAC.

Verify the simulation test level displayed is identical to the value printed on the BAC Printout.

Fenove, sign, date and attach the BAC Printout and Diagnostic Pr:ntout to_the Simulation Test Checklist, and record information below.
C-1, Make entry for appropriate BAC in 3imulation Test Log.
SECTION 4 POST TEST 1.
Turn-simulator heater off.

Allow simulator solution to cool to room temperature.
3.
Pour simulator solution into control bottle, recap and store in a cool (refrigerated) area until the next use.
4.
Submit the Simulation Test Checklist, BAC Printout and Diagnostic Printout to the Supervisor-Security Shift for review.
