6 MP 1411.06.01 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE FOR TYPE SMB AND SMC LIMITORQUE OPERATORS 8.0 PROCEDURE I

NOTE 8.0 Unless specifically allowed by the procedure step or section, deficiencies shall be resolved by a follow-up MWO.

8.1 Mechanical Inspection and Lubrication Check (S0) 8.1.1 Externally inspect the operator. The inspection shall include but is not limited to:

a. Loose, missing or broken hardware -- document and tighten or replace as necessary b.

Evidence of moisture or water on the actuator or valve stem -- clean and dry as necessary

c. Dirt or high dust accumulation on the actuator or valve stem -- clean as necessary
d. Surface corrosion -- notify and correct at the Foreman's direction; document corrective action.

NOTE 8.1.2 Slight weepage of grease is normal.

(S0) 8.1.2 Inspect the operator for leakage of lubricant from gasketed or 0-Ring sealed joints.

I l I CAUTION 8.1.3 l l

l 1 Mixing incompatible greases may cause the greases l l

to solidify, liquify or produce toxic gases. I l Only Nebula EP-1 shall be used.

l l

l l

l (EQ) 8.1.3 Inspect the grease in the operator as follows:

8.1.3 (Continued)

NOTE 8.1.3a Each operator has at least two grease plugs on the main gear box compartment.

There is a grease plug on the motor gear box compartment, on some units,  !

which is isolated from-the main gear box compartment.

1 l I CAUTION 8.1.3a l I

i l Do not confuse the grease plugs with limit l l switch compartment conduit plugs. l l

l l

l a.

Remove grease plugs from the accesible main gear box compartment and as appIscable motor gear box housings.

b. Observe the quantity of grense in the actuator; O. the grease should adequately cover the gear sets.

\_sl

  • IF grease addition is required and the grease type presently in the operator is unknown (see Signoff Sheet), initiate a follow-up MWO (via the PMW0) to relube the operator.

AND DO NOT continue any further with this procedure.

(S0)

  • IF grease addition is required and the grease presently in the operator is Nebula EP-1 (see Signoff Sheet), add grease as required.
c. Using a suitable instrument, remove a small amount of grease from each plug. Grease should:

Be soft to the touch Not show evidence of excessive separation Show no evidence of dirt, water or other foreign material.

8.1.4 IF the grease does not appear to meet the criteria of 8.1.3c: *

a. Provide a sample of the grease to Maintenance Engineering for evaluation of grease acceptability for continued use.

IF the grease is unsuitable for use, initiate a follow-up MWO (via the PMWO) to relube the operator and DO NOT continue any further with this procedure.

(S0) 8.1.5 IF the grease in the operator is Nebula EP-1 (see Signoff Sheet), add approximately i ounce of Nebula EP-1 to the housing cover zerk fitting.

(S0) 8.1.6 IF the grease type in the operator is unknown (see Signoff Sheet), DO NOT grease the zerk fitting but continue with the procedure.

8.2 Electrical Cleaning and Inspection NOTE 8.2 These inspections shall be performed to the maximum extent possible without removing limit switches or torque switches except as noted.

(S0) 8.2.1 Obtain equipment clearance.

8.2.2 Remove the limit switch compartment cover.

8.2.3 On SMC operators, also remove the torque switch compartment cover.

i l l
