Subject:

Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operating License No. DPR-72 IE Bulletin 79-01B - Environmental Qualification

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

In our letter of January 6,1982, Florida Power Corporation (FPC) documented the status of regulatory activities that were aggressively pursued during RefuelIII. The installation of two isolation valves ASV-195 and ASV-196, for automatic isolation of the steam source line in the Auxiliary Building in thc event of a steam line break to prevent elevated environmental conditions in response to IE Bulletin 79-01B was one of those activities.

Our intent was to have completed all outage requiring work during Refuel III, which ended in December, 1981, and to complete the work, consistent with equipment delivery I schedule, by June 30,1982. The completion date of this item is currently December 31, 1982, for the following reason:

Design: A field change to the welding requirements was completed June 23,1982.

Current Status: A field change to a switch cover required to complete qualification requirements will be completed by July 30,1982.

Procurement: ASCO Pressure Switch scheduled delivery date was Jyne 20, 1982.

l (Qualification Report not scheduled to be transmitted to' Florida Power l Corporation until December,1982.)

Current Status: Target Rock Isolation Valves - Received, but release to field awaiting resolution of documentation requirements. Scheduled completion of this effort is July 30,1982.

  • Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut June 30,1982 Page 2 Installation: Electrical portion is complete except for final terminations.

Current Status: Relocation of certain auxiliary equipment is scheduled for mid-July,1982, but may require short outage (Mode 3).

Remaining mechanical portions (valves, hangers, etc.) will be

. completed within approximately four (4) weeks of material receipt / release.

Based on the above, Florida Power Corporation considers it unlikely that installation will be complete until December 31, 1982. However, we will continue our best efforts to accomplish this as soon as the above constraints are resolved.

If further information is required, please contact Mr. D. G. Mardis of my staff at (813) 866-4283.
