..s Question 1.

What is the status of the Target Rock safety / relief valves at your plant (s); i.e.:

a. Are they in their original design configuration?

Answer: No

b. What is the existing simmer margin?

Answer:

c. What modifications have you implemented to improve re-liability?

Answer: Eight of eleven valves have been modified to two (2) stage top works.

d. On what date were these modifications made?

Answer: Both 1090 setpoint SRV's modifications were completed in fall of 1978. Both 1105 setpoint and four of the 1140 SRV's modifications were completed in Spting of 1979.

Question 2.

What maintenance and testing do you reatinely perform on these valves and how often is it performed?

Answer: (1) One half of all! the SRV's shall be bench checked with steam, each operating cycle with all SRV's checked every two operating cicles.

(2) At least one SRV shall be disassembled once every operating cycle.

(3) Bellows monitoring pressure switches shall be re-moved and bench checked once each operating cycle for the three SRV's that do not have two stage topworks.

Question 3.

What additional modifications and/or maintenance do you plan to implement in the future?

Answer: (1) The Authority is evaluating the addition of positive indication for SRV's open/close positions.

(2) The Authority is also planning to change the topworks of the remaining three safety-relief valves from three (3) stage to two (2) stage assembly.

Answer: The Authority plans to implement these modifications during the Spring 1980 refueling outage.
