Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No. 1 Docket No. 50-334 Relief Request for Inservice Inspection Requirements Gentlemen:

Our February 15, 1980 letter requested that page 3/4 4-30h, relating to the inservice inspection of reactor vessel safe ends, be deleted on the basis that the five year special inspection requirements have been completed and that no reportable defects were found.

On further discussion between your staff and our staff, it has been concluded that, to be consistent with the intent of the original safety evaluation report, the augmented inservice inspection program for reactor vessel safe end welds should be continued through the third refueling or as may be further re-quirr' by evaluation of the program results.

We reiterate our request that page 3/4 4-30h, relating to inservice inspection of reactor vessel safe ends, be deleted from the technical specifications but on the basis that tra se Inservice Inspection Program requirements are set forth in Section I of the " Ten Year Inspection Plan of the Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit I" and inclusion of this inservice inspection requirement in the technical specifications represents a redundant requirement.

Very truly yours, g m
