2. Report Date: 27 January 1978
3. Occurrence Date: January 3-4, 1978 (Decernined ac plant 27 January 1978)
4. Identification of Occurrence:

Biomass of fish and shellfish impinged on the intake screens of Units 1, 2 and 3 exceed the 50 kg/24hr reporting level of Section 3.1.3 of the Environmental Technical Specifications.

5. Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

Unit #1 - All water circulation pumps operational.

Unit #2 - All water circulation pumps operational. I Unit #3 - All water circulation pumps operational.

6. Descriotion of Occurrence:

During the period 0900 January 3,1978 to 0900 January 4,1978 0 85.75 kg of fish and shellfish were impinged on the intake screens of Crystal River Units 1, 2 and 3. Of the 85.75 kg impinged, Unit 3 accounted for 52.60 kg (61% of total). One commercially unimportant species, the batfish accounted for 18.06 kg (21% of total). Two commercially utilized species, the pink shrimp and the blue crab accounted for 2.49 kg (3% of total). Impingement of all other commercially utilized species was less than 1 kg during the period in question. The remaining biomass impinged was distributed among several species of fish and shellfish. .

7. Designation of Apoarent Cause of Occurrence:

The folicwing unusual or periodic event was noted prior to or during the occurrence:

One oil barge entered the intake canal during sampling.

This event may have been partially responsible for the 1 impingement observed.
