Dear Mr. Adensam:

We have reviewed the proposed operation of Units 1 and 2 of the Catawba Nuclear Station in York County, South Carolina, as reonested by letter j of September 1,1981, received September 3,1981.

Based on our records, it.is our belief that there are no federally listed or proposed Endangered or Threateneo plant or animal species in the impact area of the project, and that the requirements of Section 7(c) l are fulfilled. In view of this, we believe that you 'have satisfied the
requirements of Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act.

Although our records indicate tna absence of listed species in this l area, there are several plant species which, although net now listed or officially proposed for listing as endangered or threatened, are under status review by the Service and may be listed at some time in the i

futu re. These species are not legally protected under the Endangered l Species Act and the biological assessment requirements do not apply to them. however, we would appreciate any efforts you might make to avoid i adversely impacting them. Those species under status review which may l

occur within the project area are:

l

1. Isoetes melanospora
2. Amphianthus pusillus l

We appreciate the invitation to join you during your visit to the site on September 22, 1981. However, because of our extremeiy limited travel funding, "e must decline. go)
