Exercise Report for the February 20, 1986, Exercise of-the Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness Plans for the Catawba Nuclear Station Attached is one copy of the Exercise Report for the February 20, 1986, partial participation joint exercise of the offsite radiological energency preparedness plans for the Catawba Nuclear Station. he State of South Carolina, and York County, and the State of North Carolina, and Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties, which are located in the 10-mile plume emergency planning zone (EPZ), participated in the exercise. He exercise report, dated April 11, 1986, was sutmitted on May 27, 1986, by Region IV of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and includes the conments resulting frta the Regional Assistance Conmittee review.

Here were no deficiencies identified as a result of this exercise. He report identifies four areas requiring corrective action in Section III, as well as several areas reemmended for improvement in Section II. %ese inadequacies did not detract from the overall capability demonstrated by the State of South Carolina, and York County, and the State of North Carolina, and Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties, to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency. herefore, the 44 CFR 350 '

approval granted on October 8,1985, will remain in effect. I q

i FEMA Region IV has furnished a copy of this exercise report to the States of i South and North Carolina and requested a schedule of corrective actions. We  !

Region will assure cmpletion by the States of the necessary corrective actions.
