In that meeting, the Staff requested bi-monthly updates on the modifications implementation status.Attached is the status of the 10 CFR 50.62 modifications at St.Lucie Units 1 and 2 as of May 15, 1990.Should there be any questions, please contact us.Very truly yours, D.A.Sa Vice Pr s'nt St.Lucie Plant DAS/E JW/gp Attachment cc: Stewart D.Ebneter, Regional Administrator, Region II, USNRC Senior Resident Inspector, USNRC, St.Lucie Plant 900531005m 900~2 PDR ADOCK 05000335 PDC an FPL Group company gc5$lpga ATTACHMENT 10 CFR 50'2 IMPLEMENTATION STATUS AS OF MAY 15'990 ST LUCIE UNITS 1 AND 2 The status of engineering activities for implementation of 10 CFR 50.62 is: Unit 2 2.The engineering design of the modules and modifications necessary for the Engineered Safety Features Actuation System (ESFAS)and Auxiliary Feedwater Actuation System (AFAS)portion of the ATWS system is complete.The Plant Change/Modification package necessary for installing the ATWS system is on schedule for issuance by June 30, 1990.The status of procurement activities for implementation of 10 CFR 50.62 is: Eaton-Consolidated Controls (ECC): Unit 2 The Diverse Scram System (DSS)module prototype fabrication is completed.

On-, site prototype testing is scheduled for late May 1990.Hardware procurement is approximately 90~complete with module fabrication scheduled to begin June 1, 1990.Combustion Engineering (CE): Unit 2 Fabrication has begun on the AFAS Matrix Relay printed circuit boards.3~Installation and final system testing of ATWS modifications at St.Lucie Unit 1 have been successfully completed.

FPL considers the St.Lucie Unit 1 ATWS system to be operational.

Modifications are on schedule for ATWS implementation at St.Lucie Unit 2 during the upcoming calendar year 1990 refueling outage.
