Dear Mr. Grier:

We have reviewed IE Bulletin 79-25 concerning failures of Westinghouse BFD relays in safety-related systems. Our review indicates that Westinghouse BFD/NBFD relays are not used to perform safety related functions at the Beaver Valley Power Station.

During our review of this bulletin, we determined that several Westinghouse BFD relays are used in control systems. However, these relays are not the particular BFD relays identified in the Bulletin. We conclude that none of the Westinghouse BFD/NBFD relays identified in the referenced Bulletin are used to perform safety related functions at Beaver Valley. No corrective action is required at this time.
