In RAI 2.3.3.20-4, we requested that the applicant provide additional information explaining which tank vents on the LRA drawings do or do not have the tank vent screen component that is listed as item 36 in LRA Table 2.3.3.20. The applicant's response stated that "...Since the vents for both tanks provide the same function, it is assumed that screen covers were installed on the diesel fuel day tank vents as well.We will accept this response by stating that there are screen vents on the diesel fuel day tanks - thereby committing the applicant to having an aging management review for them. If it turns out that there are no screens, then the applicant should advise us and we will modify the response.

In RAI 2.3.3.23-3, we requested that the applicant provide additional information to verify that the continuation of pipeline 097-2 from LRA drawings 1X4LD179-2 and 2X4LD179-2 had been made to the correct drawings and locations and to provide the drawings. The applicant stated that the pipeline continues to P&ID AX4DB124-2 and shows the point where the license renewal boundary ends at the Auxiliary Building to Radwaste Transfer Tunnel Boundary. The applicant further stated that 1X4LD179-2 and 2X4LD179-2 ...should have been revised to include the Auxiliary Building to Radwaste Transfer Tunnel Boundary for clarity. Since X4LD179-2 and 2X4LD179-2 were not revised to show the boundary and AX4DB124-2 was not provided for our review, we are unable to confirm that there are no new component types within the boundary for which the drawing was not provided. The applicant confirmed that there are no new component types within the boundary discussed.
In RAI2.3.4.4, we requested additional information justifying the boundary locations for line 153-10" at HV5103. The applicants response referred to 1302-153-10" and 1302-010-10".
There is some confusion regarding which line is being referred to. We can find no 1302-153-10". According to drawing 1(2)X4LD161-1, the line from HV5103 is 1305-153-10."
The applicant stated that 1302-153-10" was mislabeled and should have been 1305-153-10".

SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION APRIL 17, 2008 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc., held a telephone conference call on April 17, 2008, to discuss and clarify the applicants responses to previous requests for additional information (RAI) concerning the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP), Units 1 and 2, license renewal application (LRA).

These questions are focused on the scoping and screening section of the LRA.

In RAI 2.3.3.20-4, we requested that the applicant provide additional information explaining which tank vents on the LRA drawings do or do not have the tank vent screen component that is listed as item 36 in LRA Table 2.3.3.20. The applicants response stated that ...Since the vents for both tanks provide the same function, it is assumed that screen covers were installed on the diesel fuel day tank vents as well. We will accept this response by stating that there are screen vents on the diesel fuel day tanks - thereby committing the applicant to having an aging management review for them.
