RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 96-01 1 TESTING OF SAFETY-RELATED LOGIC CIRCUITS SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION FACILITY OPERATING LICENSE NOS. DPR-70 1 DPR-75, AND NFP-57 DOCKET NOS. 50-272, 50-311 1 AND 50-354 Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) has received Generic Letter 96-01 and will implement its requested actions for the Salem and Hope Creek facilities.

Specifically, PSE&G will: (1) Compare electrical schematic drawings and logic diagrams for the reactor protection system, Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) load shedding and sequencing, and actuation logic for the engineered safety feature systems against each plant's surveillance test procedures to ensure that all portions of the logic circuitry, including the parallel logic, interlocks, bypasses and inhibit circuits, are adequately covered in the surveillance procedures to fulfill each respective plant's Technical Specifications requirements.

This review will include relay contacts, control switches and other relevant components within these systems, used in the logic circuits performing a safety function.

(2) Modify station surveillance procedures as necessary for complete testing to comply with the Technical "Specifications.

Implementation of the above actions will be completed prior to startup of each plant following the first refueling outage for that plant commencing after January 10, 1997. 260021 9604260133 960416 PDR ADOCK 05000272 p PDR @.
