By letter dated May 27, 2009\ as supplemented by additionalletters 2; Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, LLC (NMPNS, the licensee) requested changes to the Facility Operating Licenses and Technical Specifications (TSs) for Nine Mile Point, Unit No.2 (NMP2). The proposed amendment would increase the maximum steady-state reactor core power level from 3467 megawatts thermal (MWt) to 3988 MWt, which is an increase from the current license of approximately 15 percent. The proposed increase in power level is considered an extended power uprate (EPU). Enclosed is the draft safety evaluation (SE) that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has prepared to support the proposed NMP2 EPU license amendment.
 
The draft SE has also been provided to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) in preparation for the upcoming meetings which are currently scheduled as follows: ACRS Subcommittee Meeting -October 5,2011, in Rockville, Maryland; and ACRS Full Committee Meeting -November 3,2011, in Rockville, Maryland.
