On December 10, 2003, operators commenced a planned ramp to below 25 percent power in response to a storm forecast predicting high ocean swells. After the high swell warning had been terminated, on December 11, 2003, operators commenced ramping to approximately 50 percent power and remained at that power level to inspect the condenser for saltwater leakage. After these inspections were completed, operators commenced ramping to full power and reached approximately 100 percent power on December 12, 2003. On December 22, 2003, at I 1 16 PST, a 6.5M earthquake occurred approximately 50 km NNW from the plant, resulting in an Unusual Event (reference Special Report 2003-04, dated January 5, 2004, DCL-03-184).

53AM;DCPP FIFTH FL. EAST Enclosure I PG&E Letter DCL-04-003 DECEMBER 2003, OPERATION SUMMARIES DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 Summary of Unit I Operation Unit I began the month in Mode I (Power Operation) at approximately 100 percent power. On December 22, 2003, at I 116 PST, a 6.5M earthquake occurred approximately 50 km NNW from the plant, resulting in an Unusual Event (reference Special Report 2003-04, dated January 5, 2004, DCL-03-184). The units remained at 100 percent power during the seismic event Summary of Unit 2 Operation Unit 2 began the month in Mode 1 at approximately 100 percent power. On December 10, 2003, operators commenced a planned ramp to below 25 percent power in response to a storm forecast predicting high ocean swells. After the swell warning had been terminated, on December 11, 2003, operators commenced ramping to full power and reached approximately 100 percent later that day. With the exception of this planned power change, Unit 2 remained at approximately 100 percent power in December 2003.

Actuations of Pressurizer Safety or Power-Operated Relief Valves There were no challenges to the pressurizer power-operated relief valves, pressurizer safety valves, or steam generator safety valves.
