Reference:

1. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Letter to Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2 - Determination of Acceptability and Sufficiency for Docketing and Notice of Opportunity to Request a Hearing Regarding Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Application for License Renewal, dated December 19, 2023 (ML23341A004)

Dear Commissioners and Staff:

In Reference 1, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) indicated the staff is in the process of formulating its projected review schedule for the Diablo Canyon Power Plant license renewal application (LRA). Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has reviewed the typical LRA review schedule based on industry precedent and identified that some of these activities, such as audits, could potentially be scheduled during the upcoming Unit 2 refueling outage. The specific dates associated with the Unit 2 refueling outage have been communicated to the NRC License Renewal Project Managers. In addition to the normal resource demands during a refueling outage, the upcoming outage includes the NRC regional inspection on license renewal and implementation of many license renewal inspections. Therefore, PG&E requests the NRC avoid scheduling any LRA review activities during the upcoming Unit 2 refueling outage to ensure sufficient resources are available to support NRC staff requests and respond to review questions in a timely manner.

PG&E makes no new or revised regulatory commitments (as defined in NEI 99-04) in this letter.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Mr. Philippe Soenen at (805) 459-3701.
