Enclosure 1 PG&E Letter DCL-02-094 JULY 2002, OPERATION SUMMARIES DIABLO CANYON POWER PLANT UNITS I AND 2 Summary of Unit I Operation Unit 1 began July in Mode 1 (Power Operation) at approximately 100 percent power. On July 2, 2002, Operators reduced power to as low as approximately 81 percent due to increasing turbine vibration. After adjusting generator seal temperatures, vibrations decreased. On July 4, 2002, operators returned the unit to approximately 100 percent power. On July 13, 2002, operators reduced power to approximately 15 percent and separated the generator from the grid due to increasing vibrations at the turbine generator current transformers. On July 14, 2002, after installing a "balance shot" on the turbine, operators paralleled the unit to the grid, and increased power to approximately 100 percent.

Summary of Unit 2 Operation Unit 2 began July in Mode I at approximately 100 percent power. There were no significant operational activities.

Actuations of Safety or Pressurizer Power Operated Relief Valves There were no challenges to the pressurizer power operated relief valves, pressurizer safety valves, or steam generator safety valves.

The generator was manually taken off line. The reactor remained in Mode 1 at approximately 15 percent power.

Therefore, this event is counted for the "duration" off-line but not as a shutdown of the reactor.

DOWN 2 020603 F 35.8 A 3 A valve positioner air manifold failed resulting in a loss of air to the operator of a main feedwater regulating valve. The valve closed causing an automatic reactor trip on low-low steam generator water level. Refer to NRC Event Number 38961, Licensee Event Report 1 2002-004 2 020605 F 15.7 A 4 Liquid was discovered in the belly of the main generator. The unit was rapidly ramped from 23 15%, then the main generator was tripped.

The reactor remained at Mode 1, above 8 %

reactor power. Therefore, this event is counted for the "duration" off-line but not as a shutdown of the reactor.
