The DiabloCanyon Power Plant provides many benefits to the local community, including revenue, jobs, and cleanenergy. The plant not only protects children (and adults) from breathing in harmful sulfur dioxide and otherparticulates that come from the combustion of fossil fuels, but the plant can also help with the drought bydesalinating water.Removing the plant from operation would be a loss for the environment and public health. After the San Ofreplant shut down in 2012, California's carbon emissions rose by 35%, according to NuclearMatters. In thecontext of climate change closing clean energy plants is going in the wrong direction.
