Re: St. Lucie Unit I Docket No. 50-335 Second Ten-Year Inservice Ins ction Pro ram By letter L-85-43I dated November l3, l985, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) requested NRC's approval to extend the first ten-year inspection interval for St. Lucie Unit I to February I I, l988. By letter dated November 20, l985 (Denton to Williams), the NRC staff approved the extension and, as a result, the second ten-year inservice inspection interval for St. Lucie Unit I will begin on February I I, l988. The purpose of this letter is to transmit the proposed St. Lucie Unit I Inservice Inspection Program for the second ten-year interval.

The enclosed document describes the basis and plans for the Second Ten-Year Inservice Inspection Summary Program for St. Lucie Unit I. The summary addresses the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code Section XI, 1983 Edition through the Summer l983 Addenda, and is subject to the limitations and modifications stated in IO CFR 50.55a (b)(2)(i). In addition, Code Case N-408, Alternative Rules for examination of Class 2 Piping Section XI, Division I is incorporated as applicable. Requirements for augmented examinations are also addressed.

By letter L-87-337 dated August 17, l987, FPL submitted revised technical specifications with respect to inservice inspections, superceding the original submittals of 1977 and l978. With approval pending on the original Inservice Inspection Technical Specification submittal, FPL decided to revise the subject technical specifications in order to reflect changes in the Combustion Engineering - Standard Technical Specifications and to reflect the format of the St. Lucie Unit 2 Technical Specifications. FPL has requested that the revised Inservice Inspection Technical Specifications be issued prior to the start of the St.

Lucie Unit I second ten-year inservice inspection interval.
