Subject:

2500 WORKERS WALK 0FF JOB Approximately 220 laborers, 70 boilermakers and some craft personnel walked off the job on Juna 10, 1985, claiming they were ill. The walkout was apparently in protest over an incident on June 3,1985, when a quality cor: trol inspector allegedly struck a laborer with a roll of blueprints. The inspector was suspended four days without pay.

The workers who left the plant site felt they would have been fired if they had struck an insp::ctor. The unions have a no-strike clause in their contracts.

At about 9 a.m., June 11, 1985, all remaining crafts left the jobsite (about 2500 workers).

Baldwin and Associates, the licensee's contractor, believes this action was taken because of rumors concerning the earlier incident,,and met with business managers for all the unions to discuss the facts.

Second shift workers. began returning to the job site on June 11. Most of the workers sch:duled for the morning shift on June 12 also have reported, indicating the job action is over.

The State of Illinois will be notified.

Region III (Chicago) first learned of the walkout about 2 p.m., (CDT), June 10, 1985. This

' information is current as of 10 a.m., (CDT), June 12, 1985.
