Dear Norman:

i ij I wish to thank you very much for the effort you made for the ERDS test August.18, 1985 with LaSalle.

It was quite evident that your Emergency Plan-l1 ning staff made an extra effort to ensure that the test went well.

Please also 1

extend my appreciation to your computer staff who assisted in this project.

h The NRC technical response teams found the automatic data transmission to be

!.l very helpful. Having accurate timely data allowed them to spend more time j

assessing the event and less time determining information needs and obtaining i

the information.

The number of questions that were asked over the ENS were j

reduced slightly and the need to update a data list was eliminated entirely.

Communications over the ENS were reduced to such an extent that only one NRC 4

communicator was ne.eded rather than the usual two.

I expect that this test demonstrated the possibility' for similar efficiencies by the LaSalle Response personnel as well, f;

As you know we view the ERDS project to be very important to improving NRC 1

incident response both as a key factor to improve our own abilities and as a j

tool to improve our response relationship with licensees.

I hope that all our l

future efforts with you will be as productive and cooperative.
