I huBJECT: PROPOSED INDIRECT TRANSFER OF CONTROL OF LONG ISLAND LIGHTING COMPANY'S INTEREST IN NINE MILE POINT NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT NO. 2 (TAC NO. M99547)

Dear Mr. Leonard:

Your September 8,1997, letter requested that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commissior, consent to proposed alternative indirect transfers of control regarding Long Island Lighting Company's (LILCO) ownership and possessory rights under the operating license for Nine Mile Point Unit 2.

As clarified and modified in your supplemental letter of October 8,1997, the request for consent now involves only the proposed indirect transfer of control of LILC0's interest in Nine Mile Point Unit 2 to i.ong Island Power Authority.

Pursuant to 10 CFR_50.80, we are reviewing the current request and have forwarded the enclosed notice to the Office of the Federal Registcr for publication.
