Questions from the July 14.1999. telephone conference with Niaaara Mohawk Power Corporation on the Nine Mile Point Station. Unit 1 (NMP1) USl A-46 oroaram.
1.
Is the effective grade for all structures elevation 243 feet?
2.
Provide a building specific justification for the use of Method A.1 at the locations where the amplification significantly exceeds the 1.5 limit at frequencies above 8 Hz.
The following questions are about the Screening Verification Data Sheets (SVDS) which are part of the NMP1 USl A-46 Summary Report.
3.
Provide a list of abbreviations which you use to specify the seismic capacity and the seismic demands for the equipment listed in the SVDS.
4.
On page 1 fine numbers 7140 and 7139, what do the words "yes" in the Capacity Spectrum and the Demand Spectrum columns mean?
5.
On pages 2,3, and 4 the Capacity Spectrum is listed as the GERS and the Demand Spectrum is listed as the GRS for numerous equipment items at elevations greater than i
40 feet above the effective grade. Since Table 41 of GlP-2 requires that, for equipment i
more than 40 feet above effective grade, the GERS be compared to the Conservative Design in-Structure SSE Response Spectrum or 1.5 times the Realistic Median-Centered in-Structure SSE Response Spectrum, justify the comparison indicated in the SVDS.
6.
On page 3 line 6144 you list the Demand Spectrum as BS which is the Bounding Spectrum. The Bounding Spectrum is a seismic capacity, explain why it is listed as a demand. If this entry is a typographical error provide the correct Demand Spectrum name.
7.
On page 12 line 7605, you indicate that the equipment elevation is more than 40 above effective grade, but the Seismic Demand to Seismic Capacity comparison used the Bounding Spectrum and the Ground Response Spectrum which GIP-2 only allows for equipment at elevations below 40 feet above effective grade. Explain your use of this comparison.
8.
On pages 26,27,35 and 36 lines 6171,6168,6165,6167,8131 and 8132 you use the abbreviation TRS for the Capacity Spectrum and CRS for the Demand Spectrum.
Since, in the telephone conference, you indicated that RRS is the symbol for your in-structure response spectra what is CRS? Also, what is TRS? It is not on the GIP-2 SEWS list of abbreviations.
