APPENDIX A NOTICE OF VIOLATION Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company Docket No. 50-309 Maine Yankee Nuclear Generating Station License No. DPR-36 As a result of the inspection conducted on November 5-8,1985, and in accordance with the NRC Enforcement Policy (10 CFR 2, Appendix C), the following violation was identified:

Technical Specification 5.4, " Training" states "A retraining ... program for the facility staff shall be maintained under the direction of the Plant Manager and shall meet or exceed the requirements and recommenda-tions of Section 5.5 of ANSI N18.1-1971 and Appendix "A" of 10 CFR

~ Part 55."

License Procedure No. 7.211, " Chemistry Section Training" states that

" Personnel-shall receive retraining at least annually (once per calendar year), a record of which shall be maintained in the individuals Chemistry training record ..."

Contrary to the above, two Chemistry Technicians have not been retrained annually as required. The Technicians were last trained in January 1984.

This is a Severity Level IV violation (Supplement IV).

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, the Maine Yankee Atomic Power Company is hereby required to submit to this office within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including: (1) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown,' consideration will be given to extending this response time.
