Docket No. 50-309 Subiect: NOTICES OF VIOLATION On August 31,1998 the Commission approved in a Staff Requirements Memorandum (SRM) the issuance of the proposed viciations presented to the Commission in SECY 177 on Ju.'f 23,1998. The violations stemmed from an Independent Safety Assessment of the Maine Vankee facility conducted in 1996 and Office of Investigations (OI) investigations from late 1995 through late 1997. In the SRM the Commission approved issuance of the violations at the severity levels proposed but disapproved the proposed assessment of a civil penalty for the subject violations.

Consistent with the Commission's direction the staff intends to issue the Notices of Violation on October 8,1998.

It should be noted that the licensee has net been specifically informed of the enforcement decision. The schedule of issuance of the report and notification is:
