p, October 18, 1996 CHAIRMAN The Honorable Richard N. Gardner American Ambassador Embassy of the United States Serrano 75-28006 Madrid, SPAIN 1
Dear Mr. Ambassador:
I would like to thank you and your staff for the courtesy extended to me and my staff during my recent visit to' Spain. I am particularly grateful that you took time out of your busy schedule to accompany me to the Consejo de l Seguridad Nuclear (CSN) for the agreement renewal signing and for discussions with nuclear officials there. As you know, my agency has a long history of cooperation with the CSN and other Spanish nuclear agencies on nuclear safety matters. I hope my visit will serve not only to continue, but to expand that -
cooperation.
l I appreciate your kind suggestion and note to former President Jimmy Carter concerning the possibility of our meeting to discuss nuclear issues. I look l forward to hearing from his office and will follow up accordingly.
Please pass on my thanks to Marshall Carter-Tripp who did a fine job in arranging the visit, despite the short amount of time she has been in Spain.
Sincerely, Shirley Ann Jackson i
