Ministry of Public Health 44 Houhai Beiyan i

Dear Dr. Yin:
I want to thank you for the time that you took from your busy schedule to meet with me during my recent visit to China. Our discussion was very informative and helped me gain a better understanding of your program. As I mentioned to you, I see several similar interests between our organizations.
Particularly in the area of naturally occurring dose and de minimis levels.
! Perhaps this is an area where we can share information. I am enclosing a copy
, of NRC's 1995 Abnormal Occurrences Report, and I would be interested in 1 1
receiving similar information from your program. Please let me know if you or any of your senior staff will have the opportunity to travel to Washington.
i It would be useful for us to continue these productive discussions. t Sincerely, Shirley Ann Jackson

Dear Mr. Qian:
It was good to hear from you again. In your letter of August 5, 1996, you invited NRC participation in a peer review of the evaluation performed by IAEA staff on Model Project SLR/9/005, " Strengthening of the Nuclear Regulatory Body of the Slovak Republic".
While I recognize the importance of conducting the peer review you, propose, and am sympathetic to your request, I am afraid that existing NRC staff i limitations and other competing demands on staff time would preclude at this )
)
time anything more than a minimal staff review. In lieu of direct NRC staff participation, you might wish to consider calling instead or, qualified outside consultants, including ex-NRC employees. NRC's Office of International Programs would be pleased to discuss this option with you in more detail.
I regret that present conditions prevent a direct involvement by the NRC staff in this worthwhile effort. We would still welcome receiving a copy of your draft report to enable the staff to learn more about your project.
I wish you good luck in this endeavor.
Sincerely, b
