252.1 ' Verify that there is a maximum yield strength limit of 90,000 psi for austenitic stainless steel components in the control rod drive mechanisms.

252.2 Provide the technical basis for using measurement by magnetic gage of ferrite of weld wire to determine the ferrite number.

The referenced WACP establishes only chemistry of the weld wire for determining the

['.

ferrite number.

j g.J 252.3 Verify whether the electroslag welding process is used only in the fabrication of components in the reactor coolant pressure boundary, or also the reactor vessel.

252.4 High heat input weld cladding is recommended not to be used in Regulatory Guide 1.43, " Control of Stainless Steel Weld Cladding of Low-Alloy Steel Components," Regulatory Position C2.

Even though a high heat input weld procedure has been qualified, there is always the possibility that underclad cracking has occurred with SA-508 Class 2, non-fine grained steel.

Indicate what inspections have been performed o'n fabricated and post weld heat treated vessels to assure that this type

[

flaw is within acceptable criteria.

r 252.5 Tables 6.1.1-1 and 6.1.1-2 of the FSAR list several non-Code specifications for materials used in engineered safety feature components.

Provide the justification for using non-Code materials in ASME classed systems.
